We followed Annapoorna, a ChildFund-supported teacher in India, through a day that showed us how one act of help ripples forward.
Made with Matter Unlimited for ChildFund International, the film was planned as a single day's shoot in India, and became three. The more we learned about Annapoorna, the more we wanted to understand. Without ChildFund's support of her education as a child, she would have worked in the fields and been married young. Instead she became a school teacher, focusing on children with learning disabilities, and helped found a Child Club where children discuss education, health, safety, and child marriage. The help she received was amplified many times over by how she gives back. The film is a documentary built to put viewers inside each location, with cameras placed centrally within each scene. For classroom scenes we shot at children's eye-height, placing the viewer among the children. One moving shot, filmed from a motorbike riding alongside Annapoorna and her husband, captures the momentum of a life transformed.
